Red-Shouldered Hawk Juvenile (I think)…

Ok, I’m pretty sure this is the Red-Shouldered Hawk juvenile.  At first I thought it was a juvenile Red Tailed Hawk.  The reason I’m not sure is because it is a juvenile hawk, many young birds look so much different than the adults.  Soooo, anyways whatever it is, I’m very happy to have spotted it.  He was very curious, aware of his surroundings, but also looking at me and my dog. A great sighting, I was able to take several photos and a short video of him.

I’m thinking the adults nested close by.  I had been seeing an adult hawk the past couple of months swooping through every few days. I believe it has a nest in my area, close to my property.  It was always to quick for me to catch a long enough look to identify.

The wing span of the Red-Shouldered Hawk is a bit smaller than the the Red-Tailed Hawk. One of the encounters I had with the adult swooping through was really close, but still not enough time for me to identify correctly.  It actually came down and swooped in between my back porch and banana trees. Which it barely fit, I was in awe at it’s accuracy of the path it chose…
