WADING BIRD ROOKERY
The alligator swamp area of the park attracts many, many pairs of wading birds that nest just feet away from the boardwalk. Herons, egrets, spoonbills, and wood storks roost and raise their young above the safety of the alligator swamp. All the alligators swimming beneath keep the birds safe from predators that are able to climb trees.
The birds are totally wild, they are not fed and are free to come and go anytime they want…
